It was late Saturday evening, just flown in from Zimbabwe. Fatigue finally caught up with him. Battling with grade 5+ rapids for three days had finally taken their toll. Yet and yet he was quietly pleased with his efforts. Single handedly rescuing Zaf on the edge of Victoria fall’s to from a certain death. For Norman, baking a cake in the sweltering sun. Having carried the ingredients including the oven in his Robson for two days. It was job well done, considering the crocodile attack took a chunk out of his kayak on the first day. Luckily, Dave B had a roll of Gaffer tape. Paddling with a four inch gash makes the kayak susceptible to water. Good job he thought, staying in the kayak when that nasty croc attacked.
He was home to his loving wife. Something was nagging him. He could not put his finger on it. Why had everyone been so anxious to get back by Sunday? We had enough time to find the source of the Nile. That unusual look of panic, particularly on Dave S face when he insisted that we catch the earlier flight back. An opportunity of a life time. Yet?
He approached the Kitchen with apprehension. She was on the phone, talking to Sue, engrossed in her conversation, she had not noticed him. What was it? Then he remembered. He owed Eric money from the Dart Trip. Did he have enough time to go to the cash point drop the money off and be back in time before she finished talking? No, there was something else, Valentine’s day, no Chocolates, Spar closed at 10. This was going to require all his cunning to survive. He had used up the excuse of bang on the head and amnesia last year. So what could he come up with, it was a matter of life and death. Quick as a flash he put a message up on the WFCC web site. So what, it was nearly midnight. They all had RSS feed to their iPhones. Someone will know….Ben, Bill, Dan, anyone……

REPLYRob - 11 February 2010 21:43:05Shrewsbury CC have a great google mailshot system - you send and e-mail to the googlegroup address and it is distributed to all members that have their e-mail address registered - which is everyone except Chappers! You just have to join SCC to get on the mailing list...

REPLYAndy - 12 February 2010 11:57:59Hi All.
Working Saturday, I'm sure there's something happening on Sunday although I'm not sure what. Any time left will be spent contemplating this messeage thread, in a nice quiet and darkened room, whatever Zaf's on I want some. Have a good paddle for those of you who can get out and manage to find the precious H20

As he approached her face lit up, angry. You are back, she said menacingly, what time to you call this. I have been waiting for you to turn up for the last two days. No call, no nothing, you selfish bar Stewart. He was about to come up with a perfect reply. Too late to duck, a paddle struck him across the head. No he thought not the neutral cranked Shogun White Water Werner Paddle, built for creaking, designed to give predictable and precise control and performance in difficult waters. http://www.canoesandkayaks.co.uk/product/967/Shogun_White_Water_Paddle_Werner As he blanked out, he could hear Zaf saying, “Always keep your helmet on”.
REPLYAndy - 12 February 2010 16:28:12For those of you who believe in Conspiracy theories Sunday the 14th of March is mothers day, two hits on our rightful manly fun in 2 consecutive months, not fair.
Sorry it's been a long week, I'll have some of the tablets.
REPLYSteve D - 12 February 2010 22:11:11Andy, the canabis cakes work well! see Zaf's post!!

REPLYZ - 18 February 2010 09:42:13The intent was to have a bit of fun with the postings, to make people smile, No offence was taken or intended. nor was it to indorse use of any drugs.
Those who take an interest in the ammmmaaaazzzing activity of kayaking, KNOW, taking any drugs would diminish the pleasure we get. At a personal level .... THE WORLD WOULD a better place if more people could be persuaded to take up the sport. With that in mind my applogies for distracting the message board readers from the real pleasure THAT IS KAYAKING. SEE you on the WATER
