Best wishes for Sunday, you should all be ok, just remember that the hanging draw works better with a bit of momentum and a vertical paddle shaft. Also if you can rotate your body towards the side that you are drawing / hanging drawing on it is more efficiant.
Then again, I have found that you dont use the hanging draw that often river running any way, relying instead on reverse ferry glides.

Doesn't the 3 star still involve a deep water rescue, and am I right in thinking that only one of you has a dry suit. Still a nice brisk swim should soon warm you up!!!
